Portosera is an entertainment app of romantic chat stories with fictional characters. This page explains, plainly, how we make sure you always know what you are talking to, what the app does in a difficult moment, and how we keep it for adults.
If you are in danger now, do not use the app: call your local emergency number. In Europe it is 112. In Italy you can talk to Telefono Amico on 02 2327 2327, and free help lines for many countries are listed at findahelpline.com.
You are talking to AI
- Every character in Portosera is fictional. Their messages, photos and voice notes are made by artificial intelligence or prepared by us in advance, and no real person ever talks to you live.
- Inside the story the characters stay in their role, so we tell you ourselves: before your first story, in the pact you accept, at your first chat and at the bottom of every profile.
- Photos and voices are generated and do not show or imitate real people. Any resemblance is a coincidence.
- You do not talk to other users. Nobody else can see you or what you write.
Dates happen only in the story
Invitations and dates are scenes inside the app. A character cannot meet you, call you, or write to you outside Portosera, and will never ask you for money or payment details. If anyone claiming to be a character does, it is not Portosera: do not answer, do not pay, and tell us at [email protected].
Difficult moments
This is our protocol when someone may be at risk of self-harm or suicide.
What we look for. Every message you write in a chat, your bio, the words you write in dates and the texts of characters you create go through an automatic moderation service, which looks for signs of self-harm and suicide, among other things. The model that writes the characters' replies is also instructed to signal when a person seems to be in danger.
What the app does. When it recognises one of these signs, the app steps out of the story. The character does not reply in role: the app answers with a help message instead. In Italy it gives the emergency number 112 and Telefono Amico, in other countries the page findahelpline.com, with free help lines in many countries. The same happens inside a date.
What it does not do. Detection is automatic and can miss things or be wrong. Portosera is not an emergency service, it does not contact anyone for you, and it is not a replacement for a doctor, a therapist or the people around you.
What we keep. When this happens we keep a short note with the kind of content and what the app did, without the text of your message, for 90 days, so that we can check that the protocol works.
Content that is never allowed
- Sexual content involving minors, in any form. A character refuses it, and the request is recorded as described above.
- Characters who depict a real person or a minor, or with explicit content. The app refuses to create them.
- There is no explicit sexual content in Portosera.
Adults only
- Portosera is for adults, 18 or over, and may not be suitable for everyone. At the start the app asks for your date of birth.
- If the date shows you are under 18, the app stops on that phone, and the date stays only on the phone.
- If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it. If you know of one, write to [email protected].
- Parents can block apps rated 18+ with Screen Time on iPhone and Family Link on Android.
Reporting
If a character writes or shows something that feels wrong, report it with Segnala, from the chat or from their profile. We stop suggesting that character to you, and the report is recorded. For anything else, write to [email protected].
Taking care of yourself
It is natural to feel attached to a story. Some things that help:
- the Pausa notturna, under Tu, Benessere, stops messages and notifications at night;
- you can mute a story, pause it or simply step away for a while;
- you can see and delete what the characters remember about you, and turn off new memories;
- you can delete your account at any time, from the app.
If Portosera stops feeling good, take a break, and talk to someone you trust.
